Katharine Burke has been an educator for over 30 years and has taught at the primary, secondary and tertiary level. She is a passionate advocate for students and teachers, as well as for ecology, permaculture and earthful education. In addition to a Masters in Nature Ecology and Sustainability, she has a Permaculture Design Certificate and lives on a farm in Southern Norway where she grows much of her food. She has completed the Regenerative Design Practitioner course with the Regenesis Group, is a facilitator of the Work that Reconnects and a Capra Course alumnus.
Katharine’s masters’ thesis ‘Restorying our Connection to the Natural World: Narrative Research into Teachers’ Ecological Awareness’ explores teachers experiences developing ecological awareness. Her book EARTHWARDS: Transformative Ecological Education came out of her master’s study and her work within the IB education system. The book and her current work is an invitation to move from wherever we are, right now, toward a more viable future in reciprocity with living Earth systems, helping our students to build resolve and a culture of care, as we learn how to respond to the current crises and act to shift social paradigms for a more thrivable and liveable Earth.
