When students help shape the symbols of a school, they help shape its identity.

At Green School Bali, our Grade 1–3 students recently embarked on a journey to create the official visual representations of the 4S approach: Sensing, Seeking, Shaping, and Storytelling. They were not simply participating in an art project. They were co-creating how our learning journey is expressed and made visible across campus.

The 4S are the flight paths of our BiRD (Biomimicry for Regenerative Design) approach. Sensing invites deep listening to people, place, and the more than human world. Seeking asks us to sit with what we notice long enough to find the question that truly matters. Shaping draws on nature’s design intelligence to respond creatively and responsibly. Storytelling ensures the work travels, inspiring others and strengthening collective learning.

As we work to embed these processes across the whole school, making them visible and familiar in daily culture matters. When abstract ideas like the 4S are translated into clear visuals, they become easier to understand, remember, and revisit over time. The icons now displayed across campus are not decorative. They are cognitive and cultural anchors for how we learn and live together.

This project was one part of a much bigger commitment to regenerative learning. When young learners help define the language and imagery of a school’s approach, they do not inherit culture. They actively build it.

What if bikes could be built with zero emissions in mind?

Last term, students took on the challenge of designing and building bamboo bicycles, exploring how natural materials can replace carbon-intensive ones like steel.

Working collaboratively, they learned the fundamentals of bike design while experimenting with bamboo and hemp fibre to create something both functional and regenerative.
