Following an extensive career as a teacher in secondary schools and then lecturer and leader in Higher Education Elisabeth is currently Head of the Department of Education at the University of Bath, UK. Elisabeth has researched and published widely in the fields of environmental education, climate change education and global citizenship education including the international ‘Research Handbook on Childhoodnature: Assemblages of childhood and nature research’ (2020, Springer). Her research is interdisciplinary, bringing together childhood, education, environmental science and the broader social sciences. Methodologically, Elisabeth’s research adopts co-creative and arts-based research methods with children, nurseries, schools and communities demonstrating strengths in participatory engagement. Elisabeth has forged original work integrating global citizenship education and environmental education. In this she argues for a less anthropocentric and more ‘ecosocial’ refiguration of education and community development for precarious times. Elisabeth has worked with numerous educational organisations to effect change. For example, with Hannah Hogarth she was invited to review the International Baccalaureate approach to climate change education and offer best practice insights from her research. This informed the IB’s renewal of the early and primary years curriculum (2024).
