Dr Jane Merewether

Dr Jane Merewether is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at Murdoch University, Western Australia. Her research sits at the intersection of early childhood education, environmental education, Indigenous and cultural studies, and posthuman and more-than-human pedagogies. Jane’s work explores young children’s relations with places, materials, other species and more-than-human worlds, with a particular interest in ecological literacies, pedagogical documentation, children’s animism, and Reggio Emilia-inspired approaches to curriculum and teacher inquiry.

Jane leads the Ecological Literacies Network, a collaborative research project involving early childhood teachers, pedagogues, researchers and children across Australia. The project investigates how children’s ecological literacies emerge through everyday encounters with places, weather, plants, animals, water, soil, waste, trees, birds and Country, and how teachers learn to notice, document and respond to these relations. Jane is also an Associate Editor of the Australian Journal of Environmental Education.
