Ash Alberg is an artist-educator who specializes in land-based textile art and local natural dye colour palettes. They are a queer non-binary femme and a descendent of settlers who has spent much of their life living, playing, and learning on Treaty 1 territory. They work from a posthumanist lens in ongoing relationship with more-than-human kin, in particular plants and fibre animals. Their research focuses on how embodied material knowledges and relationships with more-than-human kin can support learners of all ages to develop a curious/care practice of sticky response-able entanglement with the world. Ash is a research assistant for the Movement as Artivism: Generating Relational and Sustainable Solidarities with Land/Place (University of Manitoba, 2023 – 2028) while pursuing their PhD in Education at the University of Manitoba. They remain committed to practice, co-conspiring with dye sources and human kin from across landbases, in particular an ongoing relationship with Oaxaca and Zapotec dyers from the region. Ash founded and runs the Cosmos Conference, an international gathering for natural dyers.
