Adides Gidson Simanjuntak is an Indonesian environmental educator, teacher, and co- founder of Gantari (Gerakan Alam Lestari), an environmental education initiative working with schools and communities. His environmental education experience includes activities in Bali and work with teachers and communities in Central Sulawesi, where local environmental conditions and community contexts have shaped how learning is approached. He currently teaches Environmental Management and IB Environmental Systems and Societies. His teaching and research interests explore how environmental learning can build understanding for learners as part within ecological and more-than-human relation and circulation.
Adi is completing a Master of Environment at the University of Melbourne, focusing on education and social change. His current research interests include relational ontology, more- than-human relations, circulation, embodiment, and biodiversity. Through Gantari, he is interested in translating these ideas into practical learning experiences grounded in locally encountered organisms, materials, places, and environmental processes, while recognising that different communities and environments should produce different forms of environmental learning.
