Peni Betasari

Ibu Peni Betasari was born and raised in Singaraja, North Bali. She began her career as an educator at an international school in Jakarta before returning to Bali and joining Green School in 2009. Her work is deeply rooted in connecting education with local communities, culture, and place.

Inspired by Green School’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement, Ibu Peni initiated Sekala Bali, a community-based social project in Singaraja that began in 2019. Through the program, local children learn English while engaging in environmental activities, including collecting and bringing organic and non-organic waste. The initiative continues to create meaningful learning opportunities and positive impact within the local community.

Ibu Peni currently serves as the High School National Principal at Green School Bali while pursuing her Ph.D. in Education. She continues to integrate community engagement and local wisdom into her educational practice through initiatives and learning experiences such as Jalan Jalan: Meet the Locals and the Social Studies course The Secret of Happiness: Discovering the Balinese Way of Living, which explores the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana.

Her work reflects her belief that education can become a bridge between young people, local communities, culture, and the environment—creating learning experiences that are meaningful, place-based, and regenerative.
