Bridget McClarty

Bridget McClarty is an environmental educator, researcher, and doctoral candidate in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University. She has over 15 years of experience teaching secondary school biology and outdoor education across western Canada. Bridget has also served as a faculty instructor and field educator with Capilano University’s Outdoor Recreation Management Program, the University of British Columbia’s Teacher Education Program, and the British Columbia Institute of Technology’s Fish, Wildlife, and Recreation Program.

Her Master of Education in Outdoor Education explored the role of awe in shaping human relationships with the natural world. Building on this work, her doctoral research engages relational approaches to examine what it means to be in relationship with the more-than-human world. Her work is informed by ecological field practices, multispecies perspectives, and a commitment to place-responsive and ethically grounded environmental education.

Bridget’s teaching and research sit at the intersection of relational ontologies and ecological learning, with a focus on cultivating attentiveness, reciprocity, and meaningful engagement with the living world.
