Denise DeLuca

Denise DeLuca is an early voice in the field of biomimicry and a leader in the movement to create regenerative, nature-inspired solutions to our global as well as personal challenges. As the co-founder of Biomimicry for Creative Innovation, and founder of Wild Hazel, Denise has spent over 30 years studying Nature’s innovative systems and strategies and helping others translate them into sustainable designs for buildings and businesses, products and policies — as well as personal challenges.

In addition to consulting, Denise is an educator and speaker who has taught biomimicry, sustainable design, and nature-based thinking at institutions worldwide. DeLuca’s previous roles include Director of MCAD’s MA in Sustainable Design program, Education Director for the International Living Future Institute, Project Manager for Swedish Biomimetics 3000, and Outreach Director for The Biomimicry Institute.

Denise is a licensed civil engineer (PE) and holds a master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering with a focus on modeling landscape-scale surface and groundwater interactions. Denise is also a Biomimicry Fellow and a member of the Advisory Council of The Biomimicry Institute, former Board Member of the International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP), and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Bionic Engineering.

With a background in Civil and Environmental Engineering and love of Nature, Denise is a pragmatic progressive, a rational radical, perhaps an enigmatic engineer. Like Nature, she strives to create products and experiences that are powerful and profound, yet practical. Her mission is to empower people from all backgrounds to re-align with Nature and their own wild wisdom to create an abundant, beautiful, life-sustaining future for our planet and all its inhabitants.

In addition to writing numerous blogs and articles, Denise is the author of Re-Aligning with Nature, Ecological Thinking for Radical Transformation.
