Learning Program

Our Learning Philosophy

The world our children will inherit is changing faster than at any time in history. For our children to prosper and humanity to flourish, we need a new kind of education — one that prepares young people to thrive in complexity and contribute to a better future. That’s the Green School Way.

At Green School, we ask ourselves each day: “What if sustainability is not enough?”
Our mission — “a community of learners making our world regenerative” — calls us to go beyond doing less harm, and instead inspire our learners to leave the world better than they found it.

We believe in project-based learning rooted in real-world relevance and guided by nature. Learning at Green School is transdisciplinary and collaborative. Through the Green Literacies Framework, we integrate multiple knowledge dimensions — academic, creative, physical, emotional, ecological — to engage students in deep, meaningful learning.

We continually ask, “How would nature solve this problem?”
This lens helps us nurture systems thinking, resilience, and creativity — not as optional skills, but as essential tools for building regenerative futures.

Rather than rejecting all conventions, we honour the best of traditional education and build around it — creating a new model that aligns with the needs of our time and the potential of our learners.

“At Green School, we ask ourselves each day: ‘What if sustainability is not enough?’ We strive to help our students understand the value of what they learn — not just for personal success, but for the future of our planet. Our goal is to foster a lifelong love of learning that goes beyond the classroom and matures into a life filled with purpose, passion, and regenerative impact.”
Daniel McCloy – Head of Curriculum & Innovation

Green Literacies

Our Accredited Frame of Learning

At Green School, we believe that learning should be joyful, purposeful, and connected to the real world. That’s why our curriculum is guided by the Green Literacies Framework — a dynamic, integrated model designed to prepare learners not only for the world as it is, but for the world they have the power to shape.

Our curriculum at Green School Bali is fully accredited by WASC (the Western Association of Schools and Colleges), allowing us to graduate students with a U.S. High School Diploma that is widely recognized by universities and institutions around the world.

Our Green Literacies are the access point to all learning. Every course or learning experience at Green School is designed to combine at least two knowledge dimensions, each drawn from different literacies. This ensures consistent integration and fluidity between disciplines, helping students develop deeper understanding and make meaningful connections across areas of study.

We organize our curriculum through Three Frames of Learning, which shape how we design, deliver, and assess student growth:

Experiential Frame

Experiential learning means learning by doing. Whether it’s building bamboo structures, planting in the gardens, or launching student-led enterprises, our hands-on approach empowers learners to take ownership of their journey. It also encourages educators to create programmes that engage curiosity, spark innovation, and connect learning to the world beyond the classroom.

Proficiency Frame

Strong academic skills form the foundation for meaningful impact. Within our Proficiency frame, students develop literacy, mathematics, science, and research abilities that foster critical thinking, collaboration, and communication — essential tools for navigating complexity and change.

Thematics Frame

Thematic Learning connects subjects like math, science, literacy, art, music, and history into unified learning experiences. Instead of treating them as separate silos, we design thematic units that mirror the interconnectedness of the world — helping students explore complex questions and global challenges in authentic, interdisciplinary ways.

“Our accredited Green Literacies framework empowers us to design interdisciplinary learning that blends math, science, and literacies with real-world application. By rooting learning in relevance and impact, we guide students to develop solutions that are not only innovative — but regenerative.”
Dr. Benjamin Freud – Head of Upper School

The Green Literacies Framework

“We believe in learning through play, especially in nature. Our program taps into children’s natural curiosity and uses the outdoors as a living classroom to spark inquiry, build confidence, and inspire young minds as they begin their journey as lifelong learners.”
Pana Asavavatana – Head of Lower School

How We Learn

Our learning is guided by Green School Principles, which are core shared beliefs about how to nurture powerful, sustainable and impactful learning experiences. We believe learning is most impactful when it is REAL. Our pedagogical belief is that we learn & grow best when experiences are:

Relationship Centred & Holistic

Green School prioritizes and sustains relationships between all learners, their environment, and their community. Our programs are holistic and engage the whole person including the social-emotional, intrapersonal, intellectual and kinesthetic connections.

Experiential & Evolving

We know students learn better through experiential learning, or ‘Learning by doing’. Our living curriculum adapts to the evolving needs of learners, so that students take ownership of their own learning journeys by being involved in it every step of the way.

Authentic & Action Oriented

We believe learning should be driven by realworld needs and the prospect of a sustainable future. But also by the ambitions of our learners, who are empowered to follow their passions and take action to create a positive impact in their surroundings.

Local to Global – a regenerative future for people and planet.

At Green School, we believe that global citizenship is not just about understanding the world — it’s about shaping it. By connecting local action to global impact, our students are empowered to be changemakers working toward a regenerative future for people and planet.

What We Learn

Academics

Green School’s learning programme follows a uniquely designed continuum of learning objectives that are designed to provide a foundation for learners to develop their knowledge and skills through challenging and integrated experiences that align with our REAL learning principles. Students explore the connections between disciplines as much as possible through our three frames of learning.

Green School Skills

Green School Skills are defined competencies that provide a structured guide for individual skills development. We use them as the backbone for all that we teach and learn. These competencies are interdisciplinary, transferable and timeless, and also vary from person to person or place to place.

Green School Values

As a community, we subscribe, teach, model, and honor a set of values – iRESPECT values – that guide us through the challenges of today. Values such as responsibility, empathy, and equality are what we believe to be of paramount importance as children continue to shape their understanding of the world as an individual and as part of a larger community.
