Burcu Meltem Arık is an education policy analyst and researcher working at the intersection of education, ecology, climate, and social justice. Her work explores how nature, biodiversity, and ecological crises are understood, represented, or overlooked in education policies and practices. She is interested in ecological and ecosocial literacy, place-based approaches, children’s relationships with the more-than-human world, and the responsibilities of educational institutions in times of ecological crisis. Alongside policy research, she works with creative practices that encourage close attention to everyday surroundings. Through haiku and haiga, she explores noticing as a way of staying with a particular moment, loosening the perceived separation between humans and nature, and becoming more attentive to living beings, seasonal changes, and ecological relations. Her work brings together policy analysis, participatory inquiry, and practices of noticing.
